Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre launch
The Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre had its official launch on 3rd May 2007.
Peter McDonald of the Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre said in his opening speech: 'Successful Indigenous businesses will create employment and trade opportunities for both indigenous and non-indigenous people, thus improving the socio-economic status of indigenous people through small business development ventures. The increased skills, knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about investments, joint ventures and viable business projects will encourage Indigenous people thinking about starting their own small business.
Successful Indigenous businesses will demonstrate to the business community that an event-based culture is a viable partner in a time-based world.’
Acknowledgements were given to the Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre funders:
- Indigenous Business Australia, in particular the support of Cheryl Ross and Natalie Fishlock
- Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and the support of Barry Mouton through the Indigenous Small Business Fund.

Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre and Stepfest
The Adelaide Indigenous Business Centre recently attended StepFEST 2007 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. AIBC was able to promote the services and support it provides to indigenous jobseekers either thinking about starting their own business or who are ready to take the next step in getting their idea off the ground. Mark and Trish spoke with a number of indigenous people who have already had thoughts about one day running their own small business. There was no shortage of good ideas that included businesses in the areas of web design, modelling agency, hospitality, internet café, lawn mowing round, beauty salon, performing arts, hairdressing salon, photography and a youth Centre. People who entered the ‘Small Biz Quiz’ were in the running to win an IPOD. This prize was taken out by Danielle Carman from Morphett Vale who was ecstatic with her win.
